- Ocean Shores’ library levy is failing by four votes.
- Fort Vancouver is also pulling a close one, losing right now at 50.2 percent.
- Spokane County is passing their’s with 53 percent.
- Clallam County’s library levy is passing with 58 percent.
What is the short term take home message from tonight’s elections? Even in a low turnout election in bad economic times, people still generally want to support their libraries, even outside of urban Puget Sound.
All four library levies are still alive this morning. Granted, two are fighting for their lives, but we’ll see as more votes are counted how they end up doing.
In parallel news, in my own county where our library levy failed 46 to 53, two local tax increases went sailing through the uprights. Intercity Transit passed their tax increase with 63 percent support and Olympia passed their fire levy with 64 percent. Granted, these weren’t county wide votes, but I think its heartening anyway.
